Thirteenth Night: A Dream Play

Location: New Theatre

by Howard Brenton

presented by New Theatre

"Thirteenth Night: A Dream Play is a political thriller based loosely on Shakespeare's Macbeth. Set in contemporary England, the play examines what it means to be a radical political activist and looks at the paradox of reformers turned tyrants. Through the highly theatrical device of a dream play-within-a-play, 13th Night shows what might happen if a Labour Government with a radical socialist platform suddenly found itself in power."

It has been a long while since I've seen a political play which grabbed me from the first scene ... the New is to be congratulated on this production ... the acting is good,t he set interesting and workable ...

Ken Boucher's direction and John Senczuk's sets work well together ...

The true strength of the play is in its staging, which is excellent. The sets are great and the lighting and sound effects are used creatively.
