Dates: 02/02/2015 - 31/08/2018

Location: Website Resource

Retired academic, John Senczuk has been awarded a Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Trust grant to enable him to collate and edit his vast file of notes and lectures on the subject of Dramaturgy, and to publish a resultant manual on line through a dedicated Australian Dramaturgy website.

“I’m grateful to the Seaborn Playwrights Trust,” Senczuk said “for the opportunity to provide at least the beginnings of a dedicated site on the discipline of dramaturgy, with a particular view to establishing a national standard for delivery of dramaturgical services.”

The material will include the history of dramaturgy and its development as a discipline in Australia over the last thirty years; the tenets of dramaturgy as applied to a. the dramaturgy of deconstruction; b. the dramaturgy of clarification (or translation); and c. the dramaturgy of new work. He will also include material on the dramaturgical strategies involved in ‘the building’ of new musicals and operas.

John has created courses in dramaturgy at The University of Wollongong, Toi Whakaari, the New Zealand Drama School and WAAPA. He provides script development and dramaturgical services nationally across film, drama and music theatre.
